I spend quite a lot of time at my computer, using a very of tools and programs. Sometimes people ask me which Software I use, so I decided to write it down. Here's a list of what I use:
The basic tools used every day to browse and read/write e-mail.
The Bat! (e-mail client)
Not the prettiest of all e-mail clients, but with tons of functionality. Excellent filters, templates and a large number of other capabilities to make dealing with e-mail easier. Spam is dealt with via Achim Winkler's BayesFilter plugin (unfortunately no website available)
Mozilla Firefox (browser)
This probably doesn't need any further explanation. Best browser I know. I'm also using a number of plugins:
Password Safe
Logins and passwords are required for more and more websites and tools today. As I can't remember them all I store them in Password Safe.
General applications for day to day activities incl word processing and information gathering.
EverNote
A note taking application, here's their own description: Quickly create, organize and find any type of notes on an endless, digital roll of paper.
OpenOffice.org
Open Source office suite including word processing, spreadsheet and presentation. I don't need this much at home, but when I do this does all I need it to do and much more.
WinZip
I've been using this forever, so I've decided to stick to this compression utility.
MWSnap
I don't often need to take screenshots, but if I do MWSnap is an excellent tool to do it. The whole desktop, the highlighted window, an active menu, a control, a specific part of the screen, it can capture it all.
WordWeb (Free version)
English thesaurus and dictionary. I don't need the full version right now, but might upgrade to it some day.
The tools I use to write my websites and create the content for them:
TopStyle Pro
CSS / XHTML / HTML Editor. I think that says it all. The best I've used over the last six years, and I've tried quite a few...
SmartFTP
I need to upload the pages, pictures etc to the server somehow, as the name implies this is an FTP client. Slightly annoying nag screen (despite it being free for personal use), but does what I want from it.
The Panorama Factory
As the name implies this is an image stitching software to create panoramas. It can create normal images as well as QuickTime VR panoramas.
Paintshop Pro
Version 9 has been released by now, although I still use Paintshop Pro 8 as my graphics and digital imaging software. Does the job and that's all I need for now.
Keeping the system clean and in good running order
CCleaner
Their own description: CCleaner is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history.
I think that explains it well enough.
EasyCleaner
If CCleaner doesn't clean it, then EasyCleaner will. And the other way around.
Ad-Aware
I haven't really been impacted by spyware or adware so far, but just in case I run this occasionally.
